K-5 21st Century Competency Plan
There are four 21st Century Competency Areas that can be implemented into the K-5 school building.
By the 5th grade, students will compete a project that encompass these four competencies. This would look very similar to what International Baccalaureate students do with their exhibition project, or a Genius Hour Project. If this competency plan were put into place, it would take collaboration among the teachers and staff to create a shared vision. The gradual release of responsibility model would also be a critical element to the success of this process. Students would need to help create the rubric that would be used to rate them in these competency areas. This would be an ever-changing process, as it would be flexible and fit the needs of individual students. Once completed, the projects and presentations would be published through web sites/blogs, giving students an understanding of how they can make a global impact.
